Moving

Easy Move Guide

Moving is difficult enough already. We've made transferring your security system to a new home simple.

How far along are you in your move?

  1. Let us know you’re moving.

Contact us so our monitoring station can place your account in TEST MODE. Test mode is necessary to prevent a false alarm.

  2. Get a free easy move kit.

Login to your account below to request a free moving kit. This kit includes a few tools and instructions for removing your security system.

  3. Disconnect your control panel.

    1. Disarm your system.
    2. Unplug the control panel’s A/C adaptor from the wall outlet.
    3. If you have the non-touchscreen system, locate the red wires on the back of the panel (if your panel is wall-mounted, these wires may be on the inside of the panel). If you have the touchscreen system, the wires will be on the inside of the system and will be black.
    4. Unclip the wires to power off the battery in the panel.
    5. Check that the panel is completely powered down by pressing a button or by pressing the screen if you have the touchscreen system. You should not hear any noise from the control panel.
  4. Prepare and disconnect your sensors.

    1. Remove and label all of your sensors. Labeling your sensors will help you know where to mount these sensors in your new home.
    2. Remove the batteries from sensors that have their own internal sirens, such as: Smoke Detectors, Carbon Monoxide Detectors, Touchscreen Touchpads, and Talking Touchpads.
  1. Check if you need a permit.

Contact the law enforcement agency for the jurisdiction where your new home is located and confirm whether a permit is required for your security system. They will provide you with the process for obtaining the necessary permit. Make sure to record the permit number provided by the jurisdiction. Log into your My Protect America account to manage it and submit the permit number under the “Submit Alarm Permit” section.
