  • How do I transfer my service to another individual?

    A change of responsibility is initiated by the current account holder. The account may not have a past due balance during the transfer process. A full system test will be required by the new owner once the transfer is complete. The current account holder will need to provide the potential new account holder's full name, phone number, and email address. The current account holder will still be responsible for the account until the new potential owner completes the online documents.   • How long does it take to transfer ownership of an account?

    A Change of Responsibility document is emailed to the potential new customer. Once the potential customer and Protect America make contact the potential customer has up to 14 days to complete the Change of Responsibility document. After all paperwork is completed by the potential customer it is processed by Protect America which can take up to 24 hours. The original owner of the services and equipment will be sent a final confirmation via email alerting them of the successful transfer or otherwise.

  • What documents are needed to transfer service to another individual?

    After the current account holder submits a change of responsibility request, Protect America will attempt to contact the new potential owner within 24 hours. Once contacted, the new owner will need to provide two contact phone numbers, an email address, the address where the system will be monitored, and their Social Security Number (SSN). Once all information is collected, the new potential owner is emailed an online document to sign that allows the transfer of service to take place. A credit check is required for the potential new owner. All paperwork must be completed within 15 days otherwise the transaction is cancelled. Once the Change of Responsibility paperwork is received and approved, it is processed within 48-72 hours.     Protect America acknowledges that in some cases the current customer is unavailable or unable to request the change of responsibility. Below are three common types of transfers that do not require the current customer participation in the process. 1. Married (Change of Responsibility): Account is in one spouse’s name and credit and it must move to the other spouse’s name and credit. Both individuals have the same address. A marriage license needs to be provided to Protect America. 2. Deceased Spouse (Change of Responsibility) The account is in the deceased spouse’s name and credit. The surviving spouse wishes to transfer the account into their name. A copy of the death certificate must be provided to Protect America. 3. Divorced (Change of Responsibility) Account is in spouse’s name and credit and a divorce occurs. The other spouse is living in the house where system is located and wants to move it to their name and credit. A copy of the divorce decree (or other documentation) needs to be provided to Protect America showing occupancy of the residence.
