Frequently Asked Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Do I need WiFi to use the Alarm.com Smart Thermostat?

    keyboard_arrow_down

No, an Internet or Wi-Fi connection is not required. The thermostat connects to the main panel using Z-Wave and is controlled through your cellular connection.

  • What temperature should I set my thermostat to in my home/business to save the most money?

    keyboard_arrow_down

The general rule of thumb is +/- 7°, depending on if you are heating or cooling the building. During the summer months while you are not at the home/business, set the temperature 7° higher than your desired temperature (ex. instead of 72°, set it to 79°). This will help save you money by not needing to cool as much during the day and the AC unit won't have to run as long to bring the temperature back to your desired setting. During the winter months, decrease the temperature by 7° to have the achieve the same effect for your heater.

Frequently Asked Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

  • The thermostat batteries are draining quickly, what would cause that?

    keyboard_arrow_down

It’s possible your “C” wire connection has come loose. The “C” wire provides additional power to the thermostat. If you’ve deliberately disconnected the “C” wire, you’ll need to remove the thermostat from the z-wave network and re-add it.

  • How can I increase the range of my Z-Wave Device?

    keyboard_arrow_down

Any Z-Wave device that is not battery powered can act as a repeater for other Z-Wave devices on your network, which will extend your range. When your devices have been installed, choose "Rediscover Network" from your app, under settings. This will allow your system to discover the best signal route for all of your equipment.
